( By Iqra Aziz ): The celebrations of
World Space Week have been launched by Islamia University of Bahawalpur with
the collaboration of SUPARCO. Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, Punjab
Minister of Education inaugurated the event in Abbasia Campus. He said that our
young generation is the prime asset of our country and nature has blessed them
with immense potential. The government is investing on this generation relying
on their capability. Provision of Laptops, scholarship schemes and many other
projects has been launched for them with investment of billions of rupees, so
that our coming generation may take the reins of the country in a proper way.
The youth of Bahawalpur
is extremely talented and capable and their glowing faces are prospects of a
bright future. The government is also taking measures for development of Bahawalpur. The world’s
largest solar park has also been setup in this city along with an industrial
zone, which will become a source of region’s development. He termed the
organization of World Space Week every year by Islamia University Bahawalpur
and SUPARCO very much beneficial for the local students. Prof. Dr. Qaiser
Mushtaq in his address said that IUB is playing a pivotal role in the promotion
of scientific research. The region and in this regard local community is also
being extended full support and participation of hundreds of students from all
over the district is an obvious proof of this fact. IUB will be playing its due
role in promotion of science and technology and community development. On this
occasion Prof. Dr. Muhamad Asghar Hashmi, Dean Faculty of Science, Prof. Dr.
Mehmood Ahmed, Dean Faculty of Pharmacy, Shujauddin Ahmad Taimuri, General
Manager Satellite, SUPARCO Lahore, teachers and students were present in large
numbers. This fact is worth mentioning that IUB has been organizing this event
for the last three years. In this week long celebrations short documentary
movies, seminars, space walk, poster making competition, fancy dress show, quiz
show, declamation contest, space festival, rocket making competition and
special lectures are included which will be participated by students of
IUB and local schools.
