BAHAWALPUR(PR)General Officer Commanding Major General Amjad Ali Khan Khattak inaugurated a 2 day dates and mangoes carnival 2016 here at Gulzar. A. Sadiq Bahawalpur. The inaugural ceremony was attended by DCO Bahawalpur Dr. Ehtisham Anwer Mahaar, high ranking military officers , Assistant Commissioner Bahawalpur city Rao Tasleem Akhter, Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Tayyab, notables of the city and officers of different departments.
Later, General Officer Commanding visited different stalls of dates and mangoes where different varieties of these 2 fruit items were placed for exhibition. He appreciated the efforts of the organizers for organizing the mangoes and dates carnival.
Earlier, DCO Bahawalpur Dr. Ehtisham Anwer Mahaar in his welcoming remarks said that mangoes and dates carnival 2016 has the joint collaboration of district government Bahawalpur and Pak Army.
"Pakistan's mangoes exports earn 5th position while dates exporting places Pakitan at number three internationally", DCO noted.
He further said that initiative of value addition of mangoes and dates may serve as a major agent to explore markets for these 2 Pakistani fruit items which may earn a handsome foreign exchange. EDO agriculture Chaudhry Tanveer Ahmad also spoke on the occasion.

Meeting of divisional task force anti-adulteration of drugs
BAHAWALPUR(PR)Divisional task force of anti-adulteration of drugs Bahawalpur in its ongoing drive to curb the menace of selling of spurious medicines and to eliminate the prevalence of quackery has imposed a fine amounting to Rs. 11.2 million and 6 thousand, collecting 1603 samples of medicines and sealing 366 medical stores in Bahawalpur division during the last 6 months. Besides, divisional task force lodged 37 FIRs, registered 666 cases through district quality control board and drug court against the owners of the medical stores on the charges of selling spurious medicines.
This was briefed in a meeting of divisional task force anti-adulteration of drugs which was held under the chairmanship of the task force MPA Qazi Adnan Farid in the conference room of Commissioner Bahawalpur.
Commissioner Bahawalpur Saqib Zafar, MPA Umer Jafar Gujjar, DCO Bahawalpur Dr. Ehtisham Anwer Mahaar, divisional and district officers of health department and other officers and officials of concerned departments attended the meeting. DCO Rahim Yar Khan Zafar Iqbal participated in the meeting through video link.
Chairman Task force anti-adulteration of drugs MPA Qazi Adnan Farid while addressing the meeting vowed to further expedite the vigil upon criminal elements involved in selling spurious medicines and involved in heinous activity of quackery.
"Selling of spurious medicines and prevalence of quackery is a crime against humanity, so Chief Minister Punjab has directed to adopt a zero tolerance policy against these enemies of humanity", he underlined.
Chairman further directed to mobilize all available resources to turn Chief Minister Punjab's vision of spurious and quackery free medical environment which is aimed to protect the human lives.
Commissioner Bahawalpur Saqib Zafar assured the meeting that prevalence of quackery and selling of spurious medicines would be wiped out in the 3 districts of Bahawalpur division through the collective, effective and coordinated efforts of health department and other relevant government agencies.
He directed the health officials to launch a stringent crack-down against manufacturers of spurious medicines. He further asked the concerned officials to have a focused monitoring of all medical stores, private clinics, pathological laboratories and blood banks to implement government of Punjab's standard operational procedures and other relevant rules in this regard.
The health officials briefed the meeting that in the last 6 months in 3 districts of Bahawalpur as many as 1603 samples of medicines were collected from medical stores, 37 FIRs were lodged, 489 cases in district quality control board and 177 cases by drug court were got registered against the owners of medical stores, 366 medical stores were sealed and a fine to the tune of Rs. 11.2 million and 6 thousand was also imposed.
The health officials further briefed that in district Rahim Yar Khan during the crack-down against sellers of spurious medicines resulted in registering 239 cases in district quality control board and 122 cases in drug court respectively, imposing a fine to the tune of Rs. 8.4 million and 24 thousand, registering 26 FIRs, collecting 442 samples of medicines, and sealing 167 medical stores while health officials also arrested 3 quacks having fake degrees of MBBS.
The health officials also maintained that in district Bahawalnagar a fine to the tune of Rs. 1.1 million and 97 thousand was imposed. They further briefed that during the crack-down against medical stores in anti-adulteration of drugs drive 660 samples of medicines  were collected, 117 medical selling facilities were sealed, 3 FIRs were lodged, 127 cases by district quality control board and 24 cases by drug court were lodged.
The health officials while giving details of the performance of task force in Bahawalpur to curb the menace of quackery and selling of spurious medicines maintained that 501 samples of medicines were collected from medical stores, owners of medical stores were fined to the tune of Rs. 1.5 million and 85 thousand for violating drug rules, 95 medical stores were sealed, 123 cases by district quality control board and 31 cases by drug court were registered and 8 FIRs were lodged against the owners of medical stores.
The health officials assured the meeting that the vigorous and sustained campaign to curb the menace of spurious medicines and malpractice of quackery has yielded it positive results during the last 6 months.

Special measures were taken regarding cleanliness of Jail premises and Jail colony. Medical officers also delivered a lecture regarding Anti-Dengue day measures.
