Bahawalpur police during June arrested 786 suspects



BAHAWALPUR(By Our Staff Reporter)Bahawalpur police during June arrested 786 suspects including 249 wanted accused, busted four gangs and recovered stolen articles worth Rs3,909,280.
During the month, 737 cases were registered in Bahawalpur district and 786 suspects involved in these cases were arrested and challaned, said District Police Officer Akhtar Abbas. However, 18 cases were dismissed as they turned out to be fake, he said. Out of the 8 cases of murder, 13 criminals were arrested and out of 31 cases of robbery, 37 were arrested. In the cases of armed robbery 11 accused were arrested.
In the crackdown on illegal weapons, police registered 49 cases and arrested 49 suspects and recovered 7 rifles, 9 guns, 31 revolvers/pistols, 2 carbines and 180 bullets. In crackdown on drug dealers, 147 cases were registered and 155 suspects involved in these cases were arrested. The police recovered 18.550 kilogrammes of charas, 0.620kg opium, 49.00 kg hashish, 4,946 liter Liquor, 250 liter Lehan.
In action against gambling dens, 20 cases were registered and 95 "criminals" were arrested while in the crackdown against professional criminals 4 gangs involved in street crime and armed robberies were busted.
As many as 19 suspects of Category A and 230 of Category B were arrested and challaned. The DPO said that police crackdown on criminals will continue and no one will be allowed to take law in their hands.

187 Candidates appeared in interviews for 49 posts of Assistant Professors in Selection Board of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR(PR)As many as 187 candidates appeared in interviews for 49 posts of assistant professors in selection board of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. The board meeting held under the chair of Prof Dr Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor while permanent members and subject experts also attended. The board interviewed candidates for departments of Applied Psychology, Commerce, Computer Science, Chemistry, Islamic Studies, Pakistan Studies, Physical Education, Social Work, Mathematics and Urdu and Iqbaliat. This selection process was part of university’s steps to overcome deficiency of teachers in all faculties since last many years. The hiring process is also in line with the policy guidelines of the Higher Education Commission to induct PhD faculty in universities at large scale to promote standards in academia and research. During last two years, the IUB also inducted 128 faculty members at professor, associate professor and assistant professor level which produced positive results on academic activities boosting research in all fields. The university won 41 research grants unprecedented in history of the university including 12 HEC research grants recently handed over to Prof Dr Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor by Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana, Chancellor and Governor Punjab. Educational circles have hoped that current recruitment of PhDs will open new avenues of research and educational promotion in this historic higher education institution of Southern Punjab.


Ahmedpur oil tanker incident :Death toll rises to 219


BAHAWALPUR (By Sumaira Danish) The death toll of Ahmedpur Sharqia oil tanker inferno has risen to 219 as another patient admitted to burn unit of Nishtar Hospital Multan had succumbed to his injuries.
Hospital sources told APP on Monday that a large number of people suffered severe burn wounds in oil tanker inferno which took place on National Highway in village Ramazan Joia, some eight kilometers off Ahmedpur Sharqia town, one day before Eid-ul-Fitr.
They said a 27-year-old Abdul Malik who received severe burn wounds in parts of his body has succumbed to injuries at Nishtar Hospital."Medical staff made hectic efforts to treat and heal wounds of Abdul Malik but he could not survive," they said.

Fire Erupts in illegal oil agency near Vehari



VEHARI(By Abdul Waheed Butt)An illegal oil agency situated in a village near Vehari was set on fire during petrol filling in two oil tankers yesterday.
The fire completely burnt down the oil agency and oil tankers and also engulfed nearby houses.
The agency is situated some 20 kilometers away from Vehari but rescue teams reached the site on time and brought the fire under control.
No loss of life was reported in the incident.
Moreover, a case was lodged against the driver and conductor of the oil tanker and owner of the illegal oil agency.

HEC has planned to establish 150 affiliated community colleges in each district

ISLAMABAD(By Web Desk)Higher Education Commission has planned to establish around one hundred and fifty affiliated community colleges in each district across the country to produce skilled human resource, 
Official sources say it t is part of the government's plan to expand the number of higher educational institutions in the country under the HEC Vision 2025.
The officials said over thirty-five billion rupees have been allocated for this purpose in the current fiscal year.
Fifteen new research universities will also be established across the country.

PPP, PTI to demand joint Parliament session for PM's resignation

ISLAMABAD(By Our Bureau Chief/Web Desk) Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Khursheed Shah, held a meeting in his chambers with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Shah Mahmood Qureshi yesterday.
The meeting was also attended by PTI’s Shafqat Mahmood, Shireen Mazari, and PPP’s Rubina Khalid.
According to sources, the two parties discussed the situation which arose after Panama case Joint Investigation Team (JIT) submitted the report in the Supreme Court. The opposition parties will soon request to discuss the JIT’s report in a Joint Session of Parliament. The prime minister’s resignation, sources added, will also be deliberated.
In its last probe report into the Sharif family’s assets, the JIT held that the prime minister and his three children — Hasan, Hussain, and Maryam — have accumulated wealth which exceeds their own known sources of income.
The date of the next hearing of the case is July 17.
PTI and PPP have called on the prime minister’s resignation, despite the government’s rejection of the report, and vow to challenge it ‘point by point’ in the Supreme Court next week. Nevertheless, senior government officials stated on Monday evening that the topic of resignation has not even come into question.
Qureshi addressed the media after the meeting and said that the purpose of calling the joint session is to remind the premier of the promise he made on the assembly’s floor- to step down if held guilty of corruption.
The PTI leader was satisfied with the JIT report, and said that the party is on the same page with PPP and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM).



3  convicts hanged in Sargodha

SARGODHA (By Web DesK0 As many as three death-row prisoners convicted for triple murder were executed in Sargodha on early on Tuesday morning. As per details, three convicts Yaqoob, Ghulam Rasool and Imran were hanged in Sargodha Jail. The convicts had killed three people during a robbery back in 2008. The Anti-Terrorism Court had awarded death sentence to the killers in 2010.

7 year performance of Rescue 1122

LODHRAN (By our Bureau Chief)Rescue 1122 received about one million calls and shifted 71,068 victims of different incidents to hospitals besides providing on the spot medical treatment to 15,181 injured.
District Officer (emergency) and Rescue 1122 In-charge Dr Syed Majid Ahmed said while sharing seven years performance of the rescue.
He said that the rescue received 18,019 calls of road accidents, 35,399 calls of medical emergencies, 834 calls of fire incidents, 2,643 calls of crime victims, 137 calls of drowning incidents, 54 calls of building collapse, four calls were related to bomb diffusion and 6,437 calls were related to other emergencies. He said that average response time was 6 minutes and 50 seconds. In case of fire incidents, the average response time was 7 minutes.


Protest Rally against Municipal Committee to "grab" the District Press Club's registered land

RAHIM YAR KHAN (By Our Correspondent)The journalists, workers of different political and civil society activists took a protest rally against the alleged attempt by the Municipal Committee staff to "grab" the District Press Club's registered land.
They accused the MC chairman of "engineering the plan" in the name of beautification of Town Hall park. They also accused the MC chairman of attempt to construct an illegal wall in the DPC lawn.
The rally started from DPC and reached in front of DC office where lawyers of District Bar Association (DBA) also joined the participants.
The protesters chanted slogans against MC Chairman Mian Ijaz Aamir and his elder brother PML-N MNA Mian Imtiaz Ahmed. Former DPC president Mumtaz Munis, Advocate Mian Abdul Mujeeb, PML-N youth wing president Adnan Rasheed, president cable operators Alyas Warriach and Rana Raheel Ahmed of PTI addressed the protesters.
Later, RY Khan DC Suqrat Amman Rana sent the protesters to Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Mahar Khalid Ahmed for negotiations. President Press Club Malik Irfanul Haq and Member Punjab Bar Council Mumtaz Mustafa told the ADC (R) that the DPC was established in the 70's when District Council and Municipal Committee approved and handed over four kanal land in North West corner of Town Hall through their unanimous sessions.
Later, the elected bodies of DPC construct its building along with an auditorium and got it registered. Different governments released grants worth millions to DPC in their tenures. They informed the ADC (R) that after assuming the office of MC chairman, Mian Ijaz Aamir started reprisal attempts against journalists for highlighting corruption in the MC.
They criticised that the MC chairman had already demolished the DPC canteen and later had dismantled a book exhibition while now he wants to construct an illegal wall on the premises of DPC lawn.
Mahar Khalid told the protesters that DC has formed a two member committee including ADCG Aitazaz Anjum and AC (HRM) Riasat Ali who will negotiate with DPC and MC representatives on Wednesday (today) to resolve the issue. He assured that the DC has strictly directed against any illegal interference in DPC.

Public awareness counted as tool to control Population

MULTAN(By Our Bureau Chief)Underlining the need for creating awareness among the masses on importance of family planning, the Commissioner Multan division Bilal Ahmad Butt pointed out on Tuesday Pakistan's population increased at a horrifying rate of four million per year which was much higher than other neighbouring or Muslim countries.
"By 2050, Pakistan's total population will surpass the horrible mark of 350 million. It will gobble up all of our resources. We need to control the population growth," he added while addressing a seminar organized by Population Welfare Department in connection with World Population Day. The Commissioner was of the opinion that majority of the families could resolve a number of problems by keeping the size of their family with proportion to their resources. He said that like other fields of life, planning was also utmost important for family life and we could pave way for a bright future for our coming generations by adopting family planning. He pointed out that big population caused unemployment, poverty and lawlessness.
Speaking on the occasion, District Population Welfare Officer Zeeshan Nasir said that the population welfare department offered services across the province and 41 per cent of Punjab's population benefited from them. He added that four family health clinics, 64 welfare centers, 158 field staff and four mobile service units offered free family planning services to the residents of Multan district. He disclosed that a film show would soon be held in Multan to create awareness on family planning.
Later on, the participants of the seminar held a walk under the leadership of the Commissioner. The participants marched up to Chowk Kutchehry from Raza Hall.

Police arrested 5,398 during first six months

BAHAWALPUR(By Our Staff Reporter)Police arrested 5,398 outlaws including 2,029 wanted criminals and recovered booty from them worth Rs3.31 billion in operations conducted during first six months of the ongoing year.
According to police, 102 outlaws were arrested for murder while 435 were nabbed for robbery. Similarly, the police arrested 377 outlaws for possessing illegal weapons and recovered eight Kalashnikovs, 83 rifles, 83 guns, 302 pistols, 19 carbines, 29,621 bullets and a hand grenade. During a crackdown on drug-peddlers, the police nabbed 682 drug-peddlers with 92kg of Charas, 7.9kg of opium, 124kg of hashish, 24,166 litres of liquor, 1,731 litres of lehan and 101 distilleries. Likewise, the police held 547 gamblers and registered 107 cases against them. The police also busted 121 affiliates of 34 different gangs.
The police also arrested 290 criminals of Category A and 1,739 of Category B and produced them in courts.
The Bahawalpur DPO pledged to continue chasing outlaws and make all-out efforts to maintain law and order across the district.
