No room for adhocism, ill planning, nepotism, and compromise on merit in higher educational institutions, Prof Dr Qaiser Mushtaq
Bahawalpur(By Faisal Mushtaq)Prof Dr Qaiser
Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur has said that in
higher educational institutions, there is no room for adhocism, ill planning,
nepotism, and compromise on merit. Such institutions
cannot be run by short term decisions and measures and neither the academic
programs can be advanced without the implementation of real merit and harmony. The
development of the university relies on the inter linked and long term planning
to produce cohesion with the international standards. The Higher Education
Commission of Pakistan has enforced some standards of international quality to
implementation these in the universities of the country. Among these standards
the ratio of students and teachers, the difference of Ph.D and Non Ph.D
teachers plus their proportion of regular employees are included in these acts.
Unfortunately, this process was ignored in IUB which badly affected the entire
system of the university and hindered the academic progress. The Vice
Chancellor expressed these views on the eve of a faculty gathering at his
residence at Baghdad ul Jadeed Campus for the faculty members of Pharmacy and
Management Sciences as part of a series of such activities for all faculties.
The Vice Chancellor said that being the most historic university of Southern
Punjab, the government has great expectations from it, and due to this reason
government has granted funds generously to this university so these may be
rightly utilized. In this situation we will have to impose the rules and
regulations to strengthen the system of the university and then we can show
some betterment in the affairs of the university to bring IUB in the row of top
ranking universities of the country. The time is ripe now to take decisions
based on merit and transparency to avoid adhocism and show far reaching results.
Although these decision may seem to be implemented with difficulty but we will
have to force these to reach our destiny which are in the best interest of our
institution. Prof Dr Qaiser Mushtaq added that he expects faculty attention to
be focused on learning and research. Similarly, the administration staff will
perform its responsibilities dutifully and prove to be role model for others
and will ultimately result in the academic excellence. On this occasion, Prof.
Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq exchanged views with the faculty members individually and
asked them to recommend proposals. The teachers praised his measures for the
betterment of IUB affairs with the consultation of faculty and hence the University
is moving towards academic excellence.
