BAHAWALPUR(PR)Research is a global activity and in order to keep abreast
with the latest trends , one important step is arranging conferences at
national and international levels which can provide impetus to our
mathematicians to do research in all areas of the subject. In this way the
innate talent in our mathematicians can be enhanced and the quality in research
output can be improved considerably .This was stated by the participants of the
three day 17th International Pure Mathematics Conference (IPMC) 2016
concluded here at Islamabad last evening. The Conference was jointly organized
by the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, the Higher Education Commission and
Preston University in collaboration with Pakistan Mathematical Society,
Advanced Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Algebra Forum. The event was
participated by 77 speakers, 363 participants,
9 keynote speakers including 6 foreign mathematicians from
Taiwan, India, Qatar, Oman,
Thailand and Saudi Arabia who attended
the conference an presented their research work. Prof Dr Qaiser Mushtaq
Conference Convener and Vice Chancellor of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur
and Ghazi University Dera Ghazi Khan said in the concluding session that Mathematics is playing a significant role in
the development of science and technology all over the world and people are
benefiting from scientific and technical innovations. It is therefore pertinent at the government level to lay proper and
balanced emphasis on the development of mathematics and it is also
responsibility of academicians to promote and flourish mathematics in Pakistan. Mathematics, like other sciences, is a
collaborated activity. Our universities should ensure that their mathematical
enterprise maintain contact with the international mathematical community
through various means, like attending conferences/seminars abroad and inviting
foreign mathematicians to attend conferences in Pakistan. The primary aim of organizing such an
activity is to enhance the understanding of mathematics and to provide
opportunity to the working mathematicians to exchange ideas with their
colleagues at the national as well as international level. The IPMC is
the only forum in the country which is providing a platform on annual basis to
mathematicians from Pakistan to interact and share their research contribution
with eminent mathematicians from around the world since 2000. It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan Mathematical Society awards gold
medal to an eminent mathematicians every year. This year gold medal was presented
to late Prof Dr Mumtaz Hosain Kazi. Prof Dr Qaiser Mushtaq who is
also President of Pakistan Mathematical Society presented gold medal to wife of renowned mathematician
during the concluding ceremony. Dr. Mumtaz Hosain Kazi was born on First
December, 1938. He received his M.A. from the University of the Punjab in 1958.
M.S. from Harvard in 1964 and Ph.D. from Cambridge in 1974. He started teaching
at the University of the Punjab in 1958 and served as Chairman, Department of
Mathematics for brief period from 1977 to 1978. Later Dr. Kazi joined the
Faculty of Science of the University of Petroleum and Minerals at Dahran (Saudi
Arabia). He was highly, proficient in various branches of the subject and gave
courses on topics which spanned pure as well as applied mathematics. He
published in international journals of high standard on topics which include
seismology, functional analysis and mathematical statistics.

Minister Punjab Khawaja Salman Rafiq has said that Punjab Government's various
effective and tangible policy initiatives are aimed to upgraded and modernize
health delivery system to ensure state of the art health cover to people of
Punjab. He made these remarks while presiding over a high level meeting at
conference room of Commissioner Bahawalpur.
The meeting was attended by
Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Saqib Zafar, Speical secretary health Dr.
Sajid Chohan, Principal Quaid Azam Medical College Professor Dr. Haroon
Khurshid Pasha, Medical Superintendent Bahawal Victoria Hospital Dr. Shahid
Faraz, Medical Superintendent Civil Hospital Dr. Aziz Ahmad, EDO health
Bahawalpur Dr. Shahid Khaliq, EDO health Bahawalnagar Dr. Basharat Mahmood, EDO
health Rahim Yar Khan Dr. Abdul Razzaq, Director Public Relations Rana Ajaz
Mahmood and other officers and officials of the concerned departments.
"Comprehensive policy
mechanism has been geared up to turn Chief Minister Punjab's health vision into
a living reality by injecting massive funds into the health delivery system
which envisions to bring in-line public health system with the dictates of the
modern age right from District Head Quarters level to Basic Health Units in 36
district of the Punjab", Khawaja Salman Rafiq noted.
Health advisor called upon
health officials to sharpen their vigil of hospital management to adopt the
standard operational procedures which include:- excellent cleanliness and
tidiness of all departments and wards of the hospital, ensuring proper stock
record of medicines and their provision to the patients through systematic
measures and maximizing the role of top surgeons and physicians along-with
their junior colleagues and paramedics to extend decent health cover to the
patients.
"Special care should also
be taken to fully operationalize all medical equipments to ensure proper
treatment of the patients which requires constant monitoring by the higher
authorities of the hospital management", Health advisor said.
Health advisor vowed that
Government was fully committed to provide maximum facilities at all the
emergencies and casualty wards; therefore, it is imperative that adequate stock
of life saving medicines should be made available and sufficient number of Stretchers
and wheel chairs and other medical fixtures should remain in excellent
operational condition. Earlier, special secretary health Punjab Dr. Sajid
Chohan gave a comprehensive briefing which covered salient features of health
SOPs which envisions Chief Minister Punjab's policy guidelines.
Later, the participants
offered Fatiha on the sad demise of late Surgeon Dr. Sagheer Sameja. The
participants prayed that almighty Allah may rest the departed soul in eternal
peace.

a cheque amounting to Rs. 5 million as economic assistance to Dr. Sadia Sameja,
the widow of late Dr. Sagheer Sameja. He was accompanied by special secretary
health Dr. Sajid Chohan, Principal Quaid-e-Azam Medical College Professor Dr.
Haroon Khursid Pasha and Additional Commissioner Coordination Saqib Ali Ateel.

Rafiq expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Dr. Sagheer Sameja
who sacrificed his life while serving Humanity. Health advisor paid rich
tribute to the glorious services of late Dr. Sagheer Sameja.
Khawaja Salman Rafiq said that
Government would extend 25 years long allotment order for the family of late
Dr. Sagheer Sameja. He further assured that Dr. Sadia's services would be made
permanent while employment to late Dr. Sagheer Sameja's brother would also be
provided. He further maintained that Government is fully committed to provide
pension and other monetary benefits to the family of the late Dr. Sagheer
Sameja along-with this special financial assistance from Chief Minister Punjab.
