BAHAWALPUR (PR)Minister of State for Education and Interior
Affairs Engr. Mian Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman inaugurated building of University
College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at the Islamia University of
Bahawalpur. The college completed at a cost of Rs. 421 million is part of three
mega projects which had been delayed during the last seven years, however with strenuous
efforts of Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor, all these projects have
been completed during last two years. In his address on this occasion, the Minister
said that under the visionary leadership of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Prime
Minister, Pakistan is rising on the global horizon as an emerging economy. The renowned
rating agencies are declaring Pakistan as the best country for foreign
investment. The CPEC is converting Pakistan into a land of opportunities and
economic and social hub in the region. Energy crises have been almost controlled
and new industries like tourism are flourishing in the country. Highest
budgetary allocations have been provided to education by spending record amount
of Rs. 1800 billion in this sector. He expressed his satisfaction that the
illustrious seat of learning of Southern Punjab, the Islamia University of
Bahawalpur has achieved another milestone with the completion and inauguration
of building of University College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. He
hoped that the handing over of this building to the Agriculture College will
help facilitate the faculty and students in their quest of knowledge and
research. He added that in a country where agriculture directly contributes to
almost 20% of the Gross Domestic Product, and provides direct employment to 45%
of the work force along with raw material supply to 70% of the industry, it is
imperative that we focus on imparting modern agricultural education to our
youth and provide them all the gadgets required for research in this vital
sector. He said that the Islamia University of Bahawalpur will play its leading
role in this connection by developing and enhancing the expertise of scientists
and researchers associated with the College of Agriculture and Environmental
Sciences. He praised recent academic and administrative steps taken by the
present leadership of the University and said that the academic, administrative
and fiscal reforms introduced by Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor have
brought the university on right track. On this occasion Prof. Dr. Qaiser
Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor said that currently our country is passing through a
transition period and both Federal and Provincial Governments are making
sincere efforts making Pakistan a prosperous country with a clearly defined
development strategy. It is now responsibility of the people to become part of
this development process as a nation. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur has
already accepted this challenge by bringing a cultural change in the university,
aligning infrastructure development with human resource development. The
ultimate goal is to produce such graduates who become useful citizens,
participative in this transition phase to make this country stronger and prosperous.
He said that recently faculty of education was inaugurated and Study Park is
completed as a unique facility for girl students. The agricultural college will
now open new avenues of research in agriculture sector helping local farmers
and strengthening agriculture based economy.
