BAHAWALPUR ( PR ): Governor Punjab and Chancellor Malik Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana said that nations can only progress with a strong economy and academic profile. The era of globalization has opened new avenues of prosperity around the globe. He said that government is paying special attention for the provision of quality education at highest level to the students of South Punjab. He was addressing as a chief guest of 13th convocation of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur today. On this occasion Governor Punjab along with Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor distributed medals and certificates among position holders’ students which including 1877 graduates out which 24 scholars got degrees of PhD, 84 got MPhil, 99 got gold medals and 85students silver medal in various disciplines. While congratulating the passed out student, the Chancellor urged them to share and use their expertise and knowledge in the practical field for the nation building of the society. He said that our youth has immense potential and guarantees bright future that is a reason the present government is investing in education. He said, we are facing huge challenges of global economic competition, only our youth with its capabilities can help to overcome these challenges. Malik Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana termed student’s talent, a great asset, shaping our future and a great opportunity for our youth to brighten their career development. He asked the faculty members to come forward and impart quality education to students so that they can meet the challenges of modern age. He congratulated the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq on transforming this university into a hub of collaborative academic and research activities in the past three years. He hoped that the University will soon be among the top most universities of the country. Earlier, Prof Dr Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor in his welcome address highlighted the achievements of the university and said that university’s ranking among other universities of the country has increased many folds and standing at eleventh position in national ranking and sixth in research in Punjab due to completion of different mega developmental and educational projects. Around 1, 47,000 degrees were pending for the last many years which had become a major academic and administrative issue. It would not have been possible without the collaboration of the honorable Chancellor’s office that this decade long problem resolved helping thousands of students to get their long awaited degrees. During university’s 40 years history, total 7 convocations were held to award 82,354 degrees and during these three years 7 convocations were took place to give 80,946 degrees which depicts a clear difference of priorities. In total, 1,31,667 degrees were issued in three years ranging from academic sessions 2011 to 2017. He said that during the last three years two hundred and thirty seven faculty members have been appointed as Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors after holding thirteen selection boards for the improvement of standard of education in the university while over one thousand employees have been promoted.
