Promotion of
national development relies on the knowledge based economy: Rana Mashhood Ahmed

(By Faisal Mushtaq): Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, Provincial Minister of Education, Youth
Affairs and Archaeology has said that the promotion of national development
relies on the knowledge based economy, so the Punjab government is implementing
the efforts in the light of the vision of Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Chief
Minister Punjab to harmonize the academic and economic development rapidly. The
high quality learning and particularly scientific research are being focused,
so that Pakistan may achieve progress on the knowledge based economy on
regional and world level to get a prominent position among the fraternity of
nations. The provincial minister expressed these views on the eve of the
inaugural ceremony of 26th National and 14th
International Chemistry Conference being organized jointly by the Islamia
University of Bahawalpur, Higher Education Commission and Pakistan Chemical
Society. Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan said that due to special focus on educational
sector, Pakistan is getting special status on international level and a
technology park is being established in Lahore, which will be first of its kind
in Pakistan and will be a landmark in the promotion of knowledge based economy.
He congratulated Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq Vice Chancellor IUB, on organizing
this scientific conference and further said that Bahawalpur region possesses
great academic and historic traditions. The Punjab government is making efforts
for the academic development of this region. A mega project is being launched
to protect its cultural heritage of Bahawalpur and university is also
collaborating in this regard. In his address on this occasion Prof Dr Qaiser
Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor said that after assuming the charge of IUB, during
last December he has launched academic and administrative reforms and in this
regard some significant measures were has been taken to promote the academic
excellence in the university. The important forums of syndicate and selection
board have been made functional which were dormant for a long time. Many
delayed measures and plans were approved by the syndicate in its meeting of 24th
June 2015 and the forthcoming syndicate meeting will prove to be introducing a
new era of development and progress in academic standards. Five mega selection
boards were held to address the shortage of teachers. Similarly, the new
project of 270 million provided by USAID, the building of the faculty of
management Sciences, two hostels and a modern chemistry lab with mega project
of 850 million funded by federal government will be setup. The project of study
park and Rahim Yar Khan campus are nearing completion. Special focus is being
given to human resource development and measures are also being taken for the
development of teachers and employees. He expressed his gratitude to Rana
Mashhood Khan for gracing the occasion. Focal Person of the conference, Prof.
Dr. Faiz ul Hassan Nasim and Dean Sciences Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asgher Hashmi
also spoken on the occasion. In this conference 300 delegates from Pakistan,
Sweden, Indonesia, South Korea and Saudi Arabia are participating who will
present papers about their research in chemistry and other relevant sectors.
Earlier, Provincial Minister Rana Mashhood Amhed Khan along with Prof. Dr.
Qaiser Mushtaq Vice Chancellor visited site of Study Park located in Baghdad
Campus and admired this exclusive park of this kind for girl’s students.
