Honourable Rafique Rajwana has said that the youth should possess the purpose
of serving their nation and the nation has complete trust in its abilities of
young generation. The present government is striving for the development of
higher education sector and in this age of globalization, this sector should
get education based economy. For this purpose we would have to equip our youth
with technology so that in this cotemporary age of competition out young
generation serve the nation by playing their role actively. Governor Punjab
expressed these views while addressing the audience of 8th
Convocation of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. On this occasion he
distributed medals and degrees among the 881 graduates of 2011 session. These
included 16 PhD, 41 MPhil and 661 M.A/M.Sc and B.S degree holders and 89 gold
medals and 66 silver medals. He further said to experts to promote education
based on research and our students must get acquainted with the market based
disciplines. As a nation we can only get our share of international development
by learning science and technology. China Pakistan Economic Corridor is a
golden opportunity for our national development and our young generation will
materialize this dream of mega project with their God gifted potential. He
further said that IUB is set up on the Rohi soil of Hazrat Khawaja Ghulam Farid
(RA), so the people of this area would have to promote love, peace and
tranquility and play their due role in the society. He elaborated that he has
been really delighted to learn about the recent distinctions of IUB and the IUB
under the leadership of present Vice Chancellor it is moving ahead steadily in
the research, development and academic sectors. In this regard the hiring of
merit based manpower, the completion of development projects in time, imposing
two semesters in a year, and promotion of research activities are measures for
a bright future. Mr. Rafique Rajwana congratulated the students, who have been
conferred the degrees and said that the achievement of degrees possesses
immense significance in their life and now they have become capable of
benefitting the nation through their education. It is hoped that now will be
able to fulfill the passions of their parents and the nation. Governor assured
the Vice Chancellor for his support for employees housing scheme,
administrative mater at HED and incentives for special students.
Prof Dr Qaiser Mushtaq Vice Chancellor IUB said in his address on
this occasion that he is striving hard to upgrade the IUB as top class
university through four dimensional strategy, which include academic excellence
imposing of financial discipline, developing infrastructure and research for
national prosperity. The top priority is to prepare such manpower which may
promote top class research along with high quality development and the
administrative staff may get acquainted with the latest tools of administration
and may run the university affairs in an exemplary way. For this purpose six
selection boards held in few months. Action on 46,000 applications for non
teaching posts is being rapidly taken for recruitment. In this way university
is going to appoint of 256 academic and 947 administrative staff by the end of
this year. Training sessions for 300 employees have been held for raising their
working skills. The approval of mega projects worth 850 million rupees from the
federal government will be a landmark for the IUB and he is making efforts to
get the under completion mega projects to get completed as soon as possible.
Work on to hostel at a Chemistry lab will start during next month. The building
of Educational training department is under completion with the funds from
USAID worth 270 million rupees. For the earlier completion of Rahim Yar Khan
Campus request has been submitted for the additional grant of 732 millon
rupees. Furthermore, a grant of 16 million rupees is also expected very soon of
ICT block. The provision of facilities to the special students is being
continued which include pick and drop facility, special ramps provision, and
hostel, while for the provision of wheel chairs and lift system request has
been submitted in the Governor Secretariat. The day care center inaugurated by
the Governor during his last visit is functional now while study ark will be
completed in next month. On this occasion he thanked the Chief Guest Mr.
Rafique Rajwana, Honorable Chancellor and the distinguished guests for gracing
the occasion. Members of Parliaments, Divisional and district administration,
Prof Dr Muhammad Asghar Hashmi, Dean Science, Prof Dr Mamuna Ghani Dean
Arts, Prof Dr Mahmood Ahmed Dean Pharmacy, Dr Abdul Sattar Registrar, faculty
members, Administrative staff and students participated in the ceremony.
