Seminar
on Human Rights Education and Sensitization in
IUB
Bahawalpur (PR) The Federal Ministry of Human
Rights in collaboration with Social Work Department, Islamia University,
Bahawalpur organized a Seminar on Human Rights Education and Sensitization under the guidance of Mr. Muhammad Arshad,
Director General (Human Rights). The Seminar was conducted under the Action
Plan for Human Rights, in order to give orientation to the university students
on human rights issues and initiatives taken by the Government of Pakistan for
protection of human rights in the country. Around 300 students and faculty
members participated in the Seminar.
Ms. Lubna Mansoor, Regional Director (Human
Rights) Lahore shared the Government’s national and international commitments
in the field of Human Rights. While highlighting the role of duty bearers and
stakeholders she emphasized on the importance of “Students’ Drive for Promotion
of Human Rights” in the country.
Mr. Zulfiqar Ali, Director, Ministry of Human
Rights Islamabad urged the students and faculty members to undertake researches
on human rights related issues with concrete recommendations for appropriate
interventions. He conducted interactive session with the students and shared a number
of initiatives being undertaken by the Government. He highlighted that the
Action Plan for Human Rights approved by the Prime Minister is being
implemented to create conducive environment for realization of Human Rights in
the country. He also motivated the participants to refer victims of human
rights violations through Toll Free Helpline (1099) for Legal Advice on Human
Rights Violations.
Dr. Hafiz Rasheed Ahmad Qazi, Head of Social
Work Department highlighted the role of academia and Mr. Sabir Farhar
(President PRWSWO) spoke on the role of civil society in promotion of Human
Rights. Dr. Asif Naveed Ranjha, Assistant Professor, Social Work Department
appreciated the role of Ministry of Human Rights and assured to continue
collaboration with the Ministry, as a regular feature.
While concluding the Seminar Prof. Dr. Muhammad
Asghar Hashmi, Dean Faculty of Science and Education, Islamia University
Bahawalpur appreciated the Government’s current initiatives for promotion of
Human Rights and stressed on creation of awareness among general public and
duty bearers on fundamental rights.
Mr. Mansoor Ali Shah and Ms. Sadia Inam Khan,
Lecturers facilitated the Programme, while Mr. Aftab Ahmad, Lecturer, Social
Work Department and Ms. Rukhsana Omer, Assistant Director, Ministry of Human
Rights acted as Programme Coordinators.
