BAHAWALPUR(PR)District Co-Ordination Officer Bahawalpur Dr. Ehtisham Anwer Mahaar
has said that price control magistrates and other concerned officials under an
ongoing crack-down against the malpractice of profiteering; adulteration of
edibles and enforcement of Ehtram-e-Ramzan ordinance have conducted as many as
180 raids; imposed a fine to the tune of Rs. 2 lakh and 80 thousand; lodged 24
FIRs and got arrested 24 offenders in district Bahawalpur.
He further said that a stringent crack-down against the
menace of profiteering has stream-lined the market mechanism to stabilize price
regime to ensure provision of edibles at affordable rates to the millions of
consumers in the holy month of Ramzan in district Bahawalpur. He made these
remarks while talking to consumers during a surprise visit of Ramzan Bazar at
Khairpur Tamewali, here, today.
During the visit, he inspected the quality of edibles and the
price rates of kitchen items; soft drinks; vegetables; fruits; chicken; meat at
different stalls. He took keen interest regarding selling of food stuffs at
accurate weight and checked the functioning of weight machines at different
stalls. He directed Assistant commissioner Khairpur Tamewali Jam Aftab Hussain
to gear up his efforts of maintaining good operational mechanism at the Ramzan
Bazar.
Earlier, in a high-level meeting presided over by DCO Dr.
Ehtisham Anwer Mahaar at detailed review of the performance of various punitive
actions by Price control magistrates under-taken during anti-adulteration;
price control and enforcement of Ehtram-e-Ramzan were thoroughly scrutinized.
During the meeting DCO was briefed that under Price control
act a fine to the tune of Rs. 1 lakh 20 thousand and 600 was imposed; 3 FIRs
were lodged; Besides, 180 raids were conducted in connection with enforcement
of Ehtram-e-Ramzan ordinance; 7 FIRs lodged; 24 violators arrested and a fine
amounting to Rs. 1 lakh and 1 thousand was also imposed by the price control
magistrates and other relevant officers.
The meeting was further apprised of that
anti-adulteration campaign was also in full swing and the price control
magistrates conducted raids; collected 22 samples of edibles and sent them to
laboratory for examination; lodged 14 FIRs and imposed a fine to the tune of

Ehtram-e-Ramzan ordinance 212 raids were conducted; 7 FIRs lodged and 27
offenders were sent to jail by imposing a fine to the tune of Rs. 1 Lakh and 13
thousand upon the violators of the Ehtram-e-Ramzan ordinance by the price
control magistrates and concerned officials during the holy month of Ramzan in
district Bahawalpur. He made these remarks during a surprise visit of Ramzan
Bazar at Railway Station road, Bahawalpur.
During the inspection he further said that during the last 24
hours the price control magistrates conducted as many as 32 raids; got arrested
3 violators; sealed 1 hotel and imposed a fine to the tune of Rs. 12 thousand
upon the violators of Ehtram-e-Ramzan ordinance in district Bahawalpur.
