BAHAWALPUR(PR)District and session judge, Bahawalpur, Rana Masood Akhter inspected Borstal institute and Juvenile jail  yesterday. On his arrival at Jail, a smartly turned out contingent of Jail officials saluted the District and session Judge.
During the inspection District and session judge gave sympathetic hearing to the imprisoned children's grievances and complaints. He issued directions to the concerned staff to take appropriate action to resolve the different problems faced by the prisoners.

BAHAWALPUR(PR)MNA and member standing committee for Information and broadcasting Begum Perveen Masood Bhatti distributed 30 sewing machines provided by Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, yesterday. While speaking on the occasion, MNA Begum Perveen Masood Bhatti maintained that Government was committed to ensure economic empowerment for the women by providing direct financial assistance to the needy and deserving women.
"Distribution of 30 sewing machines is a symbolic act of providing financial facility to promote the culture of self employment among our extremely hard working and dedicated women", she claimed.

Libraries of the universities are repository of knowledge; wisdom; research and development: Prof. Dr. Talat Afza
BAHAWALPUR(PR)Vice Chancellor, Government College Women University, Professor Dr. Talat Afza has said that libraries of the universities are repository of knowledge; wisdom; research and development which is enshrined in the books preserved in them.
She made these remarks while inaugurating a new research lab at the women university, yesterday.
"The glory and majesty of intellectual and civilizational heritage is amply reflected in the libraries of universities which infact stands as a practical manifestation of any society's commitment to knowledge economy", the Vice Chancellor maintained.
Professor Dr. Talat Afza further said that this new research lab would pave the new vista of research and development by providing opportunity to the research scholars in particular and students in general. The ceremony was attended by a large number of faculty members; students which include: - Registrar librarian Ms. Tahira Tariq; member library committee: - Ms. Shagufta Saleem; Ms. Almas Fatima and Ms. Musarrat Bashir.



DCO Dr. Ehtisham Anwer Mahaar has called upon traders to mobilize all available resources to maintain an adequate quantum of food stock of essential food items


BAHAWALPUR(PR)District Co-ordination Officer Bahawalpur Dr. Ehtisham Anwer Mahaar has called upon traders to mobilize all available resources to maintain an adequate quantum of food stock of essential food items to ensure a smooth and effective demand and supply mechanism for the consumers during the Holy month of RAMZAN in Bahawalpur District.
He issued these directions while presiding over a District price control committee meeting held in his conference room, yesterday.
The meeting was attended by Additional District collector Ms. Imrana Amal; District Officer Co-ordination Amjad Bashir; all the Assistant Commissioners of Bahawalpur Division; representatives of both traders and consumers and other officers and officials of concerned departments of Bahawalpur District.
DCO directed price control magistrates to be vigilant and effectively implement the rates fixed through price control lists and impose fine on the offenders of price control act in District Bahawalpur.
"The price lists should be pasted at prominent places at all shops for public display to ensure visual access to the consumers to contents of price control list to get quality food products at the fixed rates", DCO Dr. Ehtisham Anwer Mahaar underlined.
DCO Dr. Ehtisham Anwer Mahaar emphasized upon the traders to not only maintain adequate stock of essentials but they should also take necessary measures to inform the specially established monitoring desk at his office about the quantum of stock in their shops on the daily basis to protect the rights of the consumers. During the meeting the concerned officials presented a comparative analysis of the prevailing rates of food stuff in the adjourning districts of Bahawalpur. The committee expressed satisfaction about the low rates prevailing in district Bahawalpur.
District price control committee meeting thoroughly reviewed the rates of different food items and approved new reduced rates of different food items to provide economic relief to the consumers during the Holy month of RAMZAN.
The new fixed rates of essential food items approved include:- Rice Basmati at Rs. 70/Kg; Rice Irri at Rs. 38/Kg; Pulse gram at Rs. 128/Kg; Pulse Maash at Rs. 245/Kg; Pulse Moong at Rs. 130/Kg; Pulse Masoor at Rs. 132/Kg; White Gram at Rs. 135/Kg; Besan at Rs. 130/Kg; Red Chili Powder at Rs. 235/Kg; Ghee at Rs. 141/Kg; Cooking Oil at Rs. 147/L; Mutton at Rs. 500/Kg; Beef at Rs. 250/Kg; Meida and Suji at Rs. 42/Kg; Open Milk at Rs. 60/L; yoghurt at Rs. 70/Kg; Tandoori Roti 100 gram at Rs. 5/each; Bread 700 gram at Rs. 50.

BAHAWALPUR(PR)Provision of Safe and hygienic portable water is the top priority of Government which has launched various long term projects in this regard. This was stated by X-en public health engineering department while inaugurating a two day workshop here today. During the workshop community development officer Mr. Saadia Yasmin and master trainer of rural and support program Ms. Nasreen Naz gave detailed presentation to the participants regarding the significance of hygienic  and safe portable water to protect the citizenry from numerous diseases which are caused by drinking low quality water.
The two day workshop was attended by representatives of local government; education; health; community development; social welfare and civil society.

BAHAWALPUR(PR)Two prominent local intellectuals Malik Habibullah Bhutta and Professor Dr. Shafiq Ahmad presented their newly published books to the Chief Librarian Rana Javed Iqbal,  at central library Bahawalpur.Prominent Poet and intellectual Khurshid Naazir presented his book entitled "Hasunat Jamee o Khisaalihee" to the District Co-ordination Officer Dr. Ehtisham Anwer Mahaar in his office.
