BAHAWALPUR(PR)Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Saqib Zafar has said
that effective and comprehensive vector surveillance is vital to wipe out the
menace of Dengue. Therefore, 1027 indoor and 251 outdoor vector surveillance
teams should be fully operationalize in all the 348 union councils in the 3
districts of Bahawalpur division. The performance of vector surveillance teams
should be monitored through geo tagging to stream-line the functioning of these
teams on modern scientific lines. He made these remarks while presiding over a
high-level divisional meeting at the Commissioner Conference room, in which
DCOs of Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan Districts participated through
video-link.
The meeting was attended by DCO Bahawalpur Dr.
Ehtisham Anwr Mahaar; Director public relations Rana Ajaz Mahmood; Director
health services; EDO health Dr. Shahid Khaliq; Additional Commissioner Saqib
Ali Ateel and other officers and officials of the concerned departments.
During the meeting detailed deliberation were made to
finalize fool proof arrangements by different departments regarding anti-dengue
drive in Bahawalpur division.
Director health services briefed the meeting that as
many as 322 beds had been reserved both in public and private hospitals of
Bahawalpur division to extend medical cover to the dengue patients. The total
number of 322 beds in 3 district of Bahawalpur division include:- 152 at
Bahawalpur district; 64 beds at district Bahawalnagar and 106 beds in Rahim Yar
Khan district.
"A total number of 1278 indoor and outdoor vector
surveillance teams had been constituted for 348 union councils of Bahawalpur
division which include:- 412 teams for 108 union councils of district
Bahawalpur; 143 teams for 122 union councils of district Rahim Yar Khan and 472
teams for 118 union councils of district Bahawalnagar", The director
maintained.
"To extend comprehensive coverage regarding
outdoor vector surveillance a total number of 348 teams have been constituted
in the 3 districts of the Bahawalpur division which include:- 78 at Bahawalpur;
98 at Bahawalnagar and 75 at Rahim Yar Khan", Director health services
said.
Director health services Bahawalpur further apprised
of the meeting that both health department and the TMAs have 136 fog machines;
405 spray machines and 45 de-watering sets in their inventory which would be
utilized in the anti-dengue drive in Bahawalpur division.
Commissioner Bahawalpur directed all concerned
divisional and district officers to gear up their efforts to ensure dengue free
environment in Bahawalpur division. "In this connection all equipments
should be kept in excellent operational condition; the requisite stock of
medicine should be maintained and the required man power should be put into
place for effective and result oriented anti-dengue drive", the
Commissioner underlined. He directed to all divisional and district officers to
place their demands to their respective higher authorities regarding provision
of necessary equipment, medicines and the required man power in this regard.
Commissioner Bahawalpur directed all DCOs to devise a
comprehensive and effective mechanism to verify the performance reports of the
vector surveillance and other inspection teams by utilizing geo-tagging
facility which should ensure not only effective monitoring and verification of
the reports of the anti-dengue inspection teams but would also help in
establishing modern database about all the activities under taken to wipe out
the menace of dengue.
Commissioner Bahawalpur asked health authorities to
complete the anti-dengue spray process of all the academic institutions one week
before their opening after the summer vacations. He further directed that
special measures should be taken to ensure that no member of the academic staff
or any unconcerned person should undertake the anti-dengue spray process in
academic institutions.
"A wide ranging public awareness campaign
regarding anti-dengue measures should also be launched by holding public
awareness walks, seminars and symposiums by involving both representatives and
members of the civil society and all relevant government department in 3
districts of the Bahawalpur division", The commissioner said.

Fariha Iftikhar Bhatti is leading the delegation. The study tour has been
sponsored by United States Education Foundation Pakistan which has planned the
visits of the visiting delegation of different colleges and universities of 3
American States Iowa; Indiana and Illinois.
The visiting delegation would visits museums;
recreational centers; sports facilities. The visiting students would also
participate in the mountaineering expedition. The female students delegation

Alweri has paid rich tribute to the district administration Bahawalpur for
initiating effective measures for introducing Urdu as official language for
conducting officials business in district Bahawalpur. He made these remarks
while delivering presidential address at monthly meeting of Shahab Dehlvi
Academy. Mr. Alweri said that the official language of the former Bahawalpur
state was Urdu. He also paid tribute to the outstanding services of Shahab
Dehlvi academy for promoting Urdu language. He said that the late Shahab dehlvi
was a towering intellectual personality. Prominent parliamentarian Makhdoom
Ahmad Alam Anwer; Director Public Relations Sahiwal Riaz ul Haq Bhatti;
Professor Mashhood Rizvi also spoke on the occasion. Later, a Mehfil-e-Mushaera
was also held. The prominent poets recited their poems and ghazals which
