LAHORE(PR)Chairperson Provincial Commission on Women Fauzia Waqar has strongly condemned honor killings.In a statement Fauzia Waqar deplored the murder of actress and model Qandeel Baloch and said that killing of women in the name of honor is not permitted by law or Shariah. She said that there is a need to check gender discrimination against women. She said that the purpose of setting up Women Commission is protection of women. Fauzia Waqar also condemned the statement of Mufti Abdul Qavi against Qandeel Baloch in the wake of her death and said that all citizens are equal under the law and no one can be allowed to take law in his own hands.

LAHORE(PR)Provincial Minister for Women Development Hameeda Waheed ud din has said that
overseas Pakistanis are playing an important role in the economic
development of Japan as well as their own country. She said that
Pakistan Muslim League-N government has set up Punjab Overseas
Pakistanis Commission in the province for resolving problems of
Pakistanis living abroad.
She
was addressing a function arranged in her honor by PML-N Japan in
Tokyo. The Minister thanked Malik Noor Awan President PML-N Japan, Ali
Kalyar President PML-N Youth Wing Japan and Malik Arshad Vice President
PML-N Youth Wing Japan for holding the function and providing her an
opportunity to meet overseas Pakistanis. Hameeda Waheed ud Din further
said that Overseas Pakistanis Commission is solving the problems of
Pakistanis living abroad under one roof and 50 percent complaints
received so far have been addressed. She said that quota of overseas
Pakistani boy and girl students has been fixed in medical collages. She
said that Punjab government will set up two police stations this year
for overseas Pakistanis. Hameeda Waheed ud Din said that overseas
Pakistanis living in Japan should get themselves registered with
Pakistan Embassy.
COMPLETION OF COAL AND GAS BASED POWER PROJECTS WILL RESULT IN
AVAILABILITY OF LOW COST ELECTRICITY: SHEHBAZ SHARIF
LAHORE(By DGPR)Punjab Chief Minister
Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said that a lot of work has been done under the
leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to cope with energy crisis. He
said that power projects were delayed due to sit-ins staged by the elements
against development of the country and prosperity of masses. He said that
energy projects under China Pakistan Economic Corridor are being speedily
implemented and 1320 megawatts Sahiwal Coal Power Plant will be completed much
before stipulated period. He said that power production from this project will
start from the beginning of next year. He said that a coal power plant of 1320
megawatts is usually completed in four to five years. He said that federal, Punjab
government and concerned institutions are working round the clock for early
completion of energy projects.
He was addressing a high
level meeting through video link, here today. The Chief Minister said that
former rulers paid no attention to the solution of people’s problem and
misappropriated national resources in the name of development projects. He said
that had the former rulers paid attention to resolving energy crisis, the
country would not have been plunged in darkness. Shehbaz Sharif said that work
is continuing expeditiously on 3600 megawatts gas-based power projects in Punjab
and these projects have been obtained at the lowest rate in the contemporary history.
He said that saving of 112 billion rupees has been made on these projects while
funds of billions of rupees have been saved in development projects through
transparency. He said that gas-based energy projects will result in availability
of low cost electricity to the masses. He said that work on solar projects is
also in progress. The Chief Minister said that thousands of megawatts electricity
will be generated with the completion of several energy projects till 2018
which will fulfill electricity requirements while industrial and agriculture
sectors will also progress. He said that the sincere efforts of the government
will prove fruitful and darkness will soon be removed from the country. The Chief
Minister said that journey of progress and development started under the
leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is continuing and the
problems being faced by the nation will be resolved. The meeting reviewed progress
on development projects including power projects. Chairman Planning &
Development, Secretary Industries, Chairman Investment Board and concerned authorities
attended the meeting.

Douglas G. Higgins accompanied by Chief (PM&E) UNICEF Office Punjab called
on the Additional Chief Secretary Punjab Shamail Ahmad Khawaja at Civil
Secretariat Lahore yesterday Matters regarding enhancement of goodwill between
UNICEF and the Punjab government to improve child protection scenario came under
discussion during the meeting. Secretary Social Welfare Punjab Haroon Rafiq and
Director General Child Protection & Welfare Bureau Punjab Ms. Fatima Sheikh
were also present.
Additional Chief
Secretary Punjab Shamail Ahmad Khawaja apprised the UNICEF Punjab Head about a
proposal of the sub-committee of the Cabinet Committee on Protection of Child
Rights to establish Provincial Commission on the Child Rights and informed that
the sub-committee has completed its deliberations regarding action plan to revamp
Child Protection and Welfare Bureau, Punjab. The Child Protection Units at
district level are also being reinvigorated according to the sub-committee
under the convenership of Additional
Chief Secretary Punjab Shamail Ahmad Khawaja. Recommendations to the competent
authority for constituting Child Rights Commission which would comprise of
prominent religious scholars, representatives of well-reputed NGOs, senior
officers from the relevant provincial departments and above all the elected
representatives have also been finalized. This commission, after its creation,
will be responsible to constitute a comprehensive child protection policy and
will independently monitor the juvenile case reporting and registration,
investigation, prosecution, conviction in borstal jails. Apart this the
medical, rehabilitated, legal and social issues of the miners who are victims
of domestic violence, child trafficking, child labour, child marriage and every
kind of child abuse which include physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual
abuse, sexual exploitation, pornography, prostitution and neglect by
step-parents or so-called guardians. The sub-committee has also recommended to
strengthen the child protection units at district level through establishment
of child protection committees which would work as referral system for entry
into Child Protection and Welfare Bureau, the ACS added.
Head of UNICEF Punjab
Douglas G. Higgins welcomed the stance of the Punjab government to ensure child
protection and hoped that these meaningful steps would assist in advocacy and
promoting awareness regarding child rights in the society. He also appreciated
that the sub-committee has proposed to prepare syllabi regarding child rights
and the protection of child rights through police, judiciary, healthcare
system, social welfare network and proper education to the new generation about
child rights. Mr. Douglas G. Higgins offered that UNICEF will extend all out
technical and monetary help to make all the governmental organizations meant
for child rights protection but an umbrella organization should be established
which would help coordinate their problems with UNICEF consultants. He also
welcomed the proposed regulations against pornography and public obscenity through
enacting rules requiring the presence of appropriate adult in offenses
involving children unless the parent or guardian is himself a suspect. Additional
Chief Secretary Punjab said on the occasion that we value the technical
assistance from UNICEF as it will result in motivating the society at larger
scale to refrain from committing violence particularly on the minor domestic
workers. ACS Punjab Shamail Ahmad Khawaja also presented a memento to the
UNICEF Head on the occasion. --
