Islamabad/Bahawalpur(PR)The
17th International Pure Mathematics Conference 2016 (17th IPMC
2016) jointly organized by the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Higher
Education Commission and Preston University began here in Islamabad this
morning. Other partner organizations include Pakistan Mathematical Society, Advanced
Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Algebra Forum. The theme of this three
day conference is Algebra, Geometry and Analysis and is being participated by 77
speakers, 363 participants, 9 keynote speakers and 6 foreign mathematicians
from Taiwan, Thailand, India, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia. Engineer Mian Muhammad
Baligh-ur-Rehman, Minister of State for Education and Professional Training,
Interior and Narcotics Control was the chief guest during the inaugural
session. The Minister of State said in his inaugural address that Mathematics is playing a significant role in
the development of science and technology all over the world and people are
benefiting from scientific and technical innovations. Pakistan should also take
a global view of it and play its role in this realm as well. Pakistan is one of
the important countries in the world. It therefore cannot afford to undermine
its role in the global affairs in general and science and technology in
particular. Since mathematics is like the backbone of science, Pakistan will
not lag behind in contributing its share in the development of mathematics. He
assured full support to organizers of the conference from the government for
organizing such activities. He emphasized on
mathematicians to remain in touch with international mathematicians. Our
universities should ensure that their mathematical enterprise maintain contact
with the international mathematical community through various means, like
attending conferences/seminars abroad and inviting foreign mathematicians to
attend conferences in Pakistan. He praised
Conference Convener Prof Dr Qaiser Mushtaq and his team for sustained efforts
and creating the forum of International Pure Mathematics Conference in generating
a true mathematical culture in mathematics. Earlier, Prof Dr Qaiser Mushtaq ,
Vice Chancellor the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and President Pakistan
Mathematical Society in his welcome address briefed the participants about
historical background, contribution and significance of thematic mathematical
conference series (IPMCs) being held since 2000. International Pure Mathematics
Conference has become the only forum in Pakistan bringing renowned and eminent
mathematicians from around the world on one platform providing unique
opportunity for researchers and scholars to share their latest ideas in this
field. He thanked Engineer Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman, Minister of State, Dr
Abdul Basit, Chancellor Preston University, Prof Dr Raza Mahmood Bhatti member
HEC and distinguished guests and participating organizations for their support
in making the event a great success. After
the inaugural session, technical sessions were held in which experts highlighted
various areas of Mathematics.
