BAHAWALPUR (PR): Punjab Minister for Higher Education, Syed Raza Ail
Gilani said that government is paying special attention for the provision of
quality education at highest level to the students of South Punjab and for this
purpose new universities have been established in Bahawalpur and Multan. He was
addressing as a chief guest of 12th convocation of the Islamia
University of Bahawalpur today. While congratulating the passed out student,
Punjab Minister for Higher Education urged them to share and use their
expertise and knowledge in the practical field for the nation building of the
society instead to sit idle at home. He said that our youth has immense
potential and guarantees bright future that is a reason the present government
is investing in education. He said, we are facing huge challenges of global
economic competition, only our youth with its capabilities can help to overcome
these challenges. Syed Raza Ali Gilani termed CPEC, a great game changer,
shaping our future and a great opportunity for our youth to brighten their
career development. He asked the faculty members to come forward and impart
quality education to students so that they can meet the challenges of modern
age. He congratulated the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq on
transforming this university into a hub of collaborative academic and research
activities in the past three years. He hoped that the University will soon be
among the top most universities of the country. The Punjab Government has
decided to include the IUB among those universities which will be upgraded for
international ranking. Earlier, Prof Dr
Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor in his welcome address highlighted the
achievements of the university and said that university’s ranking among other
universities of the country has increased many folds and standing at eleventh
position in national ranking and sixth in research in Punjab due to completion
of different mega developmental and educational projects. He informed that at
present over twenty thousand and five hundred students enrolled in fifty eight
different disciplines of the university. He said that during the last three
years two hundred and thirty seven faculty members have been appointed as
Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors after holding
thirteen selection boards for the improvement of standard of education in the
university while over one thousand employees have been promoted. The Vice
Chancellor further stated that keeping in view the policy of Punjab Government;
jobs have been given to fifty children and spouse of those who died during the
service in the university. While highlighting the importance of on job
training, the VC said that five hundred and twenty three employees have been
imparted training in the field of IT and office management. He told that work
is in progress on a mega project costing eight hundred and fifty million rupees
while the construction work of four hostels in university’s Bahawalpur campus
and two in Rahim Yar Khan having capacity of one thousand five hundred
students. Prof. Dr. Qaisar Mushtaq informed that government has approved the
project of Rahim Yar Khan Campus at a cost of seven hundred and twenty six
million rupees through Central Development Working Party which will become a
milestone for the region after completion. He said that biggest sports complex
of South Punjab have been completed in Islamia University while academic block
of Bahawalnagar Campus have been completed at a cost of four hundred and nine
million rupees. Later, Punjab Minister for Higher Education, Syed Raza Ali
Gilani also distributed medals and certificates among position holders’
students of different disciplines.
In the convocation, total one
thousand, seven hundred and forty two graduates conferred degrees out which
five students got degrees of Ph.D., fifty four got M.Phil, eighty four got gold
medals and seventy four students silver medal in various disciplines. On this
occasion, MNA Sabiha Nazir and MPAs Fauzia Ayub Qureshi and Haseena Begum,
dignitaries and faculty members were also present. --
