BAHAWALPUR(PR)The
Islamia University of Bahawalpur has jumped from 51st to 11th
position in general ranking of universities. According to the Higher Education
Commission’s (HEC) ranking announced yesterday, IUB stands at 11th
position with score of 57.836. This achievement is very significant as
previously university was ranked at 51st position. Education circles
have lauded efforts of Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia
University of Bahawalpur for betterment in administrative and academic affairs
of the university leading toward academic excellence.
PU teachers adjourn protest to campaign for ASA elections
LAHORE(PR)Punjab University
teachers who have been protesting outside Punjab Assembly against the unlawful
appointment of interim vice chancellor at Punjab University
for a month announced to adjourn their protest to participate in Academic Staff
Association (ASA) on Tuesday.
Teachers who launched PU Save Movement said
the ASA election as to be held on March 10thand they had decided to
fully participate in it. “We will do our campaign by wearing black bands on our
arms. We know that the unlawful VC will do his best to pressurize teachers to
support his group in the elections but we will confront them,” teachers said.
“We hope the government will remove
the unlawfully appointed Mujahid Kamran but if it doesn’t we will be back on
the Mall to protest from March 11,” said
Samee Uzair, one of the protesting teachers.
The teachers who have launched Save
PU Movement said, “We did not come out for pay raise or any other perks or
facilities. We have PhD professors and the most qualified teachers with us. It
is extreme helplessness when university teachers come on the roads. We have
taken to roads to protect our prestigious institute from becoming a laughing
stock. There is extreme unrest among the teachers on the unlawful appointment
of Mujahid Kamran as interim VC. We want him removed from the office and the
senior most professor at the varsity should be appointed as acting VC in
accordance with the University Act,” the added.
“We will continue our struggle for the
restoration of our institutes’ prestige. ASA election will prove that teachers
don’t want the illegal VC at the university,” they said.

First phase of Zakat Rozgar Rickshaw
Scheme is being launched
Lahore (PR)Provincial Minister for Zakat & Ushar Malik Nadeem Kamran
has said that the first phase of Zakat Rozgar Rickshaw Scheme
“Mustahqeen-e-Zakat se Sahib-e-Nisab Tak” is being launched from February 24
and 63 auto rickshaws will be distributed among deserving persons for their
permanent rehabilitation. He said that the basic purpose of this scheme is to
enable mustahqeen-e-zakat to stand on their own feet. A function will be held
in this regard at 10 am on 90-Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam.
He was talking to mediamen regarding Zakat Rozgar Rickshaw Scheme at
Assembly Chamber, here today. The Minister said that free auto rickshaws
will be provided to zakat mustahqeen on soft terms and auto rickshaws will be
given only to the eligible persons who will meet the conditions. Malik Nadeem
Kamran further said that the policy and procedure evolved by Provincial Zakat
Council regarding distribution of auto rickshaws among mustahqeen-e-zakat is
being implemented. He said that this scheme is being started from nine
districts of divisional headquarters as a pilot project which include Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur
and Dera Ghazi Khan. He said that six to seven auto rickshaws will be given to
mustahqeen in every district under this scheme. He said that only the poorest
mustahqeen meeting the terms and conditions will be selected for Zakat Rozgar
Rickshaw Scheme.
