PCR LAB TESTING OF DENGUE PATIENTS TO BE
DECENTRALIZED
LAHORE(PR)A meeting of Technical Advisory Committee
(TAC) on Dengue held under the chairmanship of Advisor to Chief Minister on
Health Kh. Salman Rafique at Institute of Public Health, here today. The
meeting reviewed the dengue situation across the province. The meeting also
shared data of suspected, probable and confirmed dengue patients. Technical
experts also reviewed the dengue larvae reporting system and gave their
recommendations on collection of data of dengue larvae and its confirmation
through laboratory tests. It was decided that PCR test of blood samples of
dengue patients to verify the type of dengue virus would be decentralized and
it would be carried out in Lahore, Rawalpindi as well in Punjab. Similarly, PCR
test of dengue larvae, for confirming virus in the larvae, would also be
conducted in the said laboratories. The laboratory situated in the Institute of
Public Health would also considered as central as well as referral lab for such
tests. The meeting was attended by Dean IPH Prof. Dr. Muaz Ahmed, Prof. Dr.
Zarfashan Tahir, Dr. Obaida Nighat, Dr. Muhammad Tahir, Dr. Muhammad Farooq,
Dr. Muhammad Aslam and Additional Director General Dengue Control Dr. Fayyaz
Butt.

MEETING TO REVIEW THE PROGRESS ON THE SCHEMES

Primary & Secondary Health Punjab Ali Jan Khan has directed that posting of
all medical officers as consultant who have completed their FCPS should be
ensured in the district headquarters hospitals. He directed the officers to
focus on monitoring and follow up to complete development schemes and new
initiatives at their proper time.
He
said this while presiding over the meeting to review the internal traffic
lights regarding implementation on new initiatives and development schemes in
the primary & secondary healthcare department. Director General Health Dr.
Mukhtar Hussain Syed, Director Policy & Strategic Planning Unit Muhammad
Khan Ranjha, Additional Secretary Admin Adnan Zafar and other senior officers
of the department attended the meeting. A detailed briefing was given to the
participants of the meeting regarding the implementation status on new
initiatives and developmental schemes. The meeting was informed that primary
& secondary healthcare department would finalize the lists after NTS tests
for the admission of nurses in non-teaching DHQ hospitals. One hundred senior
medical officers/medical officers are being selected for six week medico legal
training from district and tehsil headquarters hospitals and RHCs. Moreover,
mortuaries would be set up in all the district headquarters hospitals in the
next fiscal year. The meeting reviewed the anesthesia diploma programme,
inspection of pharmaceutical units across the province, matters regarding the
promotion of doctors from grade-18 to 19, formulation of comprehensive transfer
policy for all cadre doctors and third party validation of bio-medical
equipment. It was informed that revamping of Medical Store Depot (MSD) has been
planned with the help of USAID and a PC-I of Rs.90 million has been prepared
for the schemes. Moreover, PC-I for revamping of bio-medical workshop has also
been prepared. The meeting reviewed the implementation of developmental work
and provision of missing facilities in DHQ, THQ hospitals. Secretary Health
directed the officers to discharge their responsibilities with dedication and
professional zeal to provide quality healthcare facilities to the people at
primary & secondary level.
