BAHAWALPUR
( PR) Rich tributes were paid to Nawab of
Bahawalpur Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi V in a seminar held at the Islamia
University of Bahawalpur in connection with his 50th death
anniversary. Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor presided the seminar
while Syed Tabish Alwari, Ex Parliamentarian delivered exclusive lecture. Prof.
Dr. Tallat Afza Vice Chancellor, Government Sadiq College Women University
Bahawalpur, Malik Habib Ullah Bhutta, representative of media and civil society,
faculty members and students attended the event in large number. Syed Tabish
Alwari said that Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi the last ruler of Bahawalpur
transformed socio economic life of his people by introducing reforms in social
and economic sector. He promoted religious and sectarian harmony and culture of
peace and tolerance prevailed in his state. His most important contribution was
the Satluj Valley Project to irrigate vast lands of Bahawalpur State through
three head works. As a result agriculture sector flourished leading to the prosperous
life of the people of the region. Nawab
proved very helpful and generous to newly established state of Pakistan and
gave Rs. 70 million to Government and also paid the salaries of all the
government employees for one month. He also contributed in the development of
the University of Punjab, King Edward Medical College and Aitchison College
Lahore. Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor on this occasion said that Sir
Sadiq Muhammad Khan V devoted all his recourses to strengthen Pakistan and he
was true believer of two nations theory. He established educational institutions,
hospitals, and libraries which show his commitment for the welfare of his
masses. Dr. Muhammad Tahir, Dr. Shahid Hassan Rizvi and Dr. Aftab Hussain
Gillani also spoke during the seminar.
