Bahawalpur (PR) Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor the
Islamia University of Bahawalpur and Ghazi University Dera Ghazi Khan has said
that concrete steps will be taken to develop Ghazi University into a
full-fledged university with the support
of both federal and provincial governments. He believes in speedy actions to
resolves academic and administrative matters and in this connection short,
medium and long term policy guideline will be implemented. He will soon contact
with the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, Punjab Higher Education
Commission and Higher Education Department for the up gradation and development
of the campuses and resolve various academic and administrative problems. The
Vice Chancellor exchanged these views in a meeting with senior faculty members,
administrative staff and employees during his first visit to the university
after assuming the charge assigned by the Punjab Government. He said that
renovation of the campuses, availability of drinking water, electricity, internet
connectivity including video conference facility and security matters will be taken
on priority basis. He directed the Registrar to submit a plan for the provision
of the human resources at all levels and prepare a semester calendar to
regulate academic activities. He also asked the treasurer and project director
to contact the higher education department for availability of funds for the
development. Earlier, the Vice Chancellor was warmly welcomed by the faculty
and employees on reaching the city campus who interacted with him and briefed
about various academic and administrative activities. The Vice Chancellor also visited
faculties of Agriculture, Management Sciences and Social Sciences at new
campus.
THE NO. OF CONSUMERS IN RAMAZAN BAZARS EXCEEDS 6.7 MILLION
LAHORE(PR) A meeting of Special
Cabinet Committee on Ramadan package was held here at Civil Secretariat, Lahore
today to review the prices, supply and demand situation during the
Ramazan-ul-Mubarak. The meeting was presided over by Additional Chief Secretary
Punjab Shamail Ahmad Khawaja and other senior officers of the provincial
government. Food Minister Punjab, Bilal Yaseen also participated in the meeting
for a short while. The meeting was informed that the number of consumers in
ramazan bazars this year has exceeded from 6.7 million up till now. the edibles
weighing more than one crore and 35 lakh kilo grams have been sold to the
fasting people of the province on subsidized prices. Where there was any
complaint regarding violation of commodities prices, weighs and measures or
quality issues, the Special Prices Control Magistrates conducted 60 thousand
raids on the suspects. 7918 profiteers were apprehended and total fine of rupees
5 crore 36 lakh was levied. The Special Branch of the Punjab Police has
presented a list to the higher authorities of the Government of Punjab
consisting of the hoarders of sugar and other commodities. Additional Chief
Secretary Punjab directed all the DCOs to arrange raids on minimally two
profiteers and with hoarders in each district on daily basis, so that there
would be no chance left for any shortage of edible items after Eid-ul-Fitr. The
meeting was informed that there is no shortage of edible oil and banaspati ghee
in the stocks of ghee dealers and further supply of edible oil is also in the
pipeline.
The meeting analyzed in depth the
performance of fair price shops arranged by Punjab Agri-Marketing Wing of
Agriculture Department and the Additional Chief Secretary appreciated the
outcome of effective intervention of agri-marketing wing which resulted in
stability of prices in both Ramazan bazaars and in open market. Special
Secretary Agri-Marketing Dr. Mrs. Farah Masood claimed in the meeting that
vegetable prices witnessed in last 5 years were the lowest this year. The price
index of pulses did rose a little because of low productivity of pulses in
local fields and price hike in the international market. Pakistan had to import
pulses from other countries on bigger prices. The variation in the prices of
black gram, basin and gram pulse in various districts of Punjab was due to variant
transportation charges as the pulse-mills are situated in Sargodha and Faisalabad
only. She informed that the gram pulse has been provided to the people at fair
price shops at subsidized rate up to the tune of Rs.20 per kg as compared to
that of available in open market while other pulses were supplied with a
subsidy of Rs.10 per kg. The total sale of pulses and vegetables in Ramazan
bazaars this year remained 14150 tons as compared to the sale of these
commodities during the last Ramazan-ul Mubarak which was 11958 tons. The Additional
Chief Secretary Shamail Ahmad Khawaja advised the Agri-Marketing Wing to remain
in touch of the relevant suppliers throughout the year to ensure that it should
become inevitable for them not to create artificial price hike in the name of
short supply of commodities. The government will ensure that the people of the Punjab
could purchase the essential items of daily use on reasonable prices throughout
the year, he added.

Tanveer Jhandeer has constituted 3 special teams on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitar to
strictly implement Government of Punjab's approved 79 Pessa per Kilometer per
passenger fare in all public transport in district Bahawalpur. This was stated
by secretary district regional transport authority Tanveer Jhandir.
Secretary district regional transport authority has
directed the owners of public transport in district Bahawalpur to strictly
adhere to the approved fare in all the public transport plying within the
administrative limits of the district.
"The approved fare lists should be placed on the
screens of the vehicles and at prominent places of all bus terminals and bus
stands to ensure public awareness in this regard", he directed to the
transporters.

Bahawalpur to maintain their strict and stringent drive to check over-charging
of essential commodities to ensure smooth and effective supply of high quality
food stuff at the fixed prices to the consumers.
He issued these directions during a surprise visit of
Ramzan Bazar Khairpur Tamewali, here, today. He was accompanied by District
Police Officer Bahawalpur, Sarfraz Ahmad Falki. DPO Bahawalpur thoroughly
checked the security arrangements made by the local police at the Ramzan Bazar.
He further said that a comprehensive security plan has been finalized and
fool-proof security cover was extended at all the 12 Ramzan Bazars in district
Bahawalpur.
District Co-ordination Officer directed all Assistant
Commissioners to adopt special measures to extend fool-proof security cover at
the Ramzan Bazar to protect the visiting consumers.
"To stabilize the price mechanism of the food
stuff both at Ramzan Bazars and at open market an effective and strict
crack-down against profiteers is of crucial significance, so Assistant
Commissioners should mobilize all available resources to wipe out the menace of
profiteering in the holy month of Ramzan", he underlined.
District Co-ordination Officer Dr. Ehtisham Anwer
Mahaar further directed the Assistant Commissioners to fully focus their
energies for effective monitoring of bidding process at all fruits and
vegetables markets which has enabled the district administration to provide
fresh and high quality fruits and vegetables to the consumers in the holy month
of Ramzan. Earlier, he inspected all the stalls of different edibles to check
their quality and price lists.
Assistant Commissioner, Jam Aftab Hussain briefed the
DCO regarding different measures to extend economic relief to the consumers at
Ramzan Bazar Khairpur Tamewali.
