planning Bahawalpur has launched public awareness campaign regarding the
socio-economic consequences of population explosion. Under this social
awareness drive social mobilizers organized group meetings of men and women at
68 social welfare centers in the district.
Social welfare department also
organized competition to identify healthy children. Besides, consultative
gathering was also held in which more than 50 religious scholars were
participated.

Chaudhry Amjad Bashir has urged upon all relevant departments to sharpen their
vigil through coherent and coordinative drive to wipe-out the menace of drug paddling
and to rehabilitate the addicts to enable them through rehabilitation process
to play constructive role in nation building process. He made these remarks
while presiding over a meeting of district narcotics control committee at the
committee room of DCO Bahawalpur. The meeting was attended by President Alfatah
Development organization Jamshid Karim Khan, DSP Rao Muhammad Qasim, Deputy
Superintendent new central jail Mahmood Fakhri, Assistant excise and taxation
officer Rao Javed Akhter, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Baig, District sports officer
Maqsood-ul-Hassan, social welfare officer Ms. Tanzila Rani and other officers
and officials of the concerned departments.
During the meeting DSP Rao
Muhammad Qasim briefed that during the month of July, Bahawalpur police in its
intensified anti-narcotics campaign: lodged 629 FIRs in different police
stations, recovered 30888 liter Alcohol, 2050 liter wine, 156.603 kilogram
Marijuana, 2.006 kilogram heroine, 1.115 kilogram opium, 1671.740 kilogram
cannabis and 100 narcotic pills.
Deputy Superintendent of new
central jail Bahawalpur Mahmood Fakhri informed that there were 131 inmates in
the jail for crimes relating to drug offences.
District officer coordination
Chaudhry Amjad Bashir urged upon officials of excise department, health
department and social welfare department to constitute special teams of excise
department for effective vigilance, survey of medical stores by health
department and to identify the addicts in the district for their rehabilitation.
