BAHAWALPUR(PR)Four day school Olympics organized by District
administration Bahawalpur kicked off at dring stadium Bahawalpur.
As many as more than 2 thousand boys and girls students hailing from 90 schools
of 3 tehsils are participating in this first ever schoolympics held in the
history of the country.
Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Saqib Zafar burned
the schoolympics torch and handed over it to a participating student. Later,
Commissioner Bahawalpur Saqib Zafar administered oath to the participating students.
The participating students hailing from three tehsils in the formation of three
contingents each of boys and girls students marched past. They presented salute
to Commissioner Bahawalpur Saqib Zafar, DCO Bahawalpur Dr. Ehtisham Amwer
Mahar, MPA Dr. Syed Waseem Akhter and other notables. The inaugural ceremony
was attended by MPA Dr. Syed Waseem Akhter, DCO Dr. Ehtisham Anwer Mahar,
Chairman Bahawalpur Waste Management Company Samiullah Chaudhry, Aqeel Najam
Hashmi, former Olympian Muteeullah Khan, Syed Tabish Alweri, Majeed Gill,
Additional District Collector Mrs. Nausheen Malik, District Officer
Coordination Chaudhry Amjad Bashir, Assistant Commissioners, EDO education
chaudhry Amjad Bashir, Divisional sports officer Syed Mateen Ahmad, Government
officials, teachers and a large number of students.
Commissioner Bahawalpur Saqib Zafar while speaking as
a chief guest said that this mega sports event is the first of its kind
organized by the District Administration and hardly had any parallel elsewhere
in Pakistan. He further said that it is an historic moment that dring stadium
Bahawalpur has been converted into an "Olympic village" where
different sports event of boys and girl students would write a new page in the
history of our motherland's sports history.
"School Olympics is not only a sports festival but
it would serve as a paradigm shift in
the sports culture by reviving the tradition of sports and other
extra-curricular activities which would promote healthy habits, discipline and
sportsman spirit among the youth", He noted.
Commissioner Bahawalpur Saqib Zafar further said that
the Bahawalpur school Olympics would go a long way to channelize the positive and
constructive potential of our youth which would finally produce athletes and
players of international standards by maintaining the glorious and splendid
traditions of producing great players like Muteeullah Khan, Samiullah Khan and
Kaleemullah Khan from this highly fertile land of Bahawalpur in the arena of
sports. He highly appreciated the initiative undertaken by DCO Bahawalpur Dr.
Ehtisham Anwer Mahar.
DCO Bahawalpur Dr. Ehtisham Anwer Mahar while
speaking on the occasion said that schoolympics Bahawalpur 2016 featured sports
competition like:- Hockey, Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Badminton and Table
Tennis along with Athletics competitions which include:- 100, 200, 400, 800,
1500 and 5000 meter races, Short races, Shot-put, Javelin through, Long March,
Triple March and High Jump.
"School Olympics 2016 Bahawalpur is culmination of
sports event organized last week at the tehsil level and top three teams and
players in each category from every tehsil are participating in the final
phase", He noted.
Dr. Ehtisham Anwer Mahar further said that this mega
event's prominent feature is the participation of both boys and girls alike in
which participants of elementary and secondary categories of children up to 8th
class are competing in a specified category while the students of class 9th
and 10th are participating in a later category to ensure fair and
just competition in sports among the students hailing from various age group.
He further said that transport, food, boarding and lodging arrangements have
also been made for the children coming from far flung areas.
DCO Dr. Ehtisham Anwer Mahar further said that
school Olympics is a part of long term strategy to provide school children healthy
and conducive environment by promoting the culture of book reading, providing
sports equipments to the students of 54 schools in the first phase and to
organize children literary festival at central library which would promote
knowledge based economy by imparting both knowledge, skill and sports
facilities for our girls and boys.
MPA Dr. Waseem Akhter paid rich tribute to
Commissioner Bahawalpur Saqib Zafar and DCO Dr. Ehtisham Anwer Mahar for
organizing such a splendid and graceful event to promote sports among the
students of Bahawalpur.
All the speakers highly appreciated the talent, skill
and marvelous expertise of the participating students. Earlier, the students of
Government Shohada-e-Pishawer Satellite town boys high school perform PT and
Gymnastic show. Students of special education presented national song while a
student Lyba presented national songs. The national anthem was played at the
start of the ceremony while pigeons were also flown in the air to mark the
occasion.
Cricket match in connection with the sesquicentennial celebrations of Lahore High Court was played between the teams of District Judiciary Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan
BAHAWALPUR(PR) A cricket match in connection with the
sesquicentennial celebrations of Lahore High Court Lahore was played between
the cricket teams of District Judiciary Bahawalpur and District Judiciary Rahim
Yar Khan at Islamia University Bahawalpur. The match was won by
cricket team of District Judiciary Bahawalpur by 16 runs.
Additional District and Session Judge Jahangeer Ali
Shah was declared man of the match who scored 26 runs and also got 2 wickets.
The top scorer of the match was Asif Gull who scored 34 runs representing
cricket team of District Judiciary Rahim Yar Khan.
District and Session Judge Bahawalpur Rehan Bashir
highly appreciated the high quality skills and talent of both the cricket
teams' and paid rich tribute to them by providing wonderful opportunity to the
spectators to witness a cricket match of high quality. District and Session
Judge Rehan Bashir further said that this cricket match has been organized
under the directions of Chief Justice Lahore High Court Mr. Justice Syed Mansoor
Ali Shah in connection with the sesquicentennial celebrations of Lahore HIGH
Court, Lahore.

Samiullah Chaudhry to Bahawalpur Museum would further enrich this bastion of
our splendid and glorious archeological heritage. These historic locks were
used for locking Derawer Fort and other historic Palaces of former Bahwalpur
state. This was stated by prominent intellectual and researcher, Chairman
Department of History Islamia University Bahawalpur, Professor Dr. Shahid
Hassan Rizvi in a statement.
