BAHAWALPUR(PR)Four Days Mega sports festival "School Olympics 2016" Bahawalpur having the participation of 200 teams hailing from 90 schools of 6 Tehsils of District Bahawalpur kicked off at Dring Stadium Bahawalpur on Sunday. This school Olympics has no parallel in the sports history of the country in which Olympics of school teams organized to streamlines sports on modern scientific lines. The inaugural ceremony of school Olympics was performed by Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Saqib Zafar who burned the school Olympic torch and handed it over to a student athlete. Later, national anthem was played, followed by march past of the participating athletes who saluted the chief guest of the ceremony Commissioner Bahawalpur Division saqib zafar and prominent guests including:- DCO Bahawalpur Dr. Ehtisham Anwer Mahar, MPA Dr. Syed Waseem Akhter, Chairman Bahawalpur Waste Management Company Samiullah Chaudhry, PMLN leader Aqeel Najam Hashmi, former Olympian Muteeullah Khan, Prominent intellectual Syed Tabish Alweri, political and social personalities of the city, students, parents and a large number of sports lovers.
As many as 2 thousand male and female students are
participating in this sports event in which various sports activities which
include:- matches of hockey, cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, table
tennis and athletics events would be staged till November 30th.
The 6 teams have been designated with the names
reviving the historical linkages of these tehsils. Tehsil Bahawalpur city,
Tehsil Yazman, Tehsil Hasilpur, Tehsil Khairpur Tamewali, Tehsil Ahmadpur East
and Tehsil Bahawalpur Sadar have been respectively designated as Burraq,
Sultan, Hoslamand, Khuddar, Nawab and Barq Raftar.
At the end of the school Olympics Bahawalpur 483 medals
and 34 trophies would be presented to the participating teams and players
achieving top positions at various sports events. Different categories of
elementary and secondary contestants of Boys and girls have been designed to
provide maximum opportunity to each age group of contestants.
