Higher Education Punjab and Pro Chancellor has said that education is the top
most priority of the Government and all resources have been dedicated for the
welfare and promotion of the youth. The Minister expressed these views during
the ceremony of 10th convocation of the Islamia University of
Bahawalpur. On this occasion, the Pro Chancellor conferred degrees to 1565 graduates
of academic session 2014 including 17 PhD and 25 MPhil scholars, besides 134
gold medalists and 131 silver medalists. He said that our youth has immense
potential and guarantees bright future that is a reason, the present government
is investing in education. He congratulated the degree holders and advised them
to benefit the society with their knowledge and skills. He said, we are facing
huge challenges of global economic competition, only our youth with its
capabilities can help to overcome these challenges. The Minister termed CPEC, a
great game changer, shaping our future and a great opportunity for our youth to
brighten their career development. He also felicitated the graduating students
and their parents. He praised the progress and development in all department of
the university during the tenure of Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor
in a short span of two years. He advised graduates to follow three principles unity,
faith and discipline given by father of the nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali
Jinnah and dedicate themselves for the country. On this occasion, Prof. Dr.
Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor briefed about academic, administrative and
developmental activities going on in university campuses. He said that he has
focused on academic excellence ensuring academic, administrative and fiscal
discipline as a result the university has jumped in general ranking from 51st
to 11th position. After recruitment of 128 faculty members through
eight mega selection boards, faculty deficiency has been met successfully while
highly competent professionals have been hired through merit based recruitment system.
Long delayed mega projects have been completed while new projects have been
proposed to federal and provincial governments. He added that all three
university campuses in Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar campus have been secured by the
construction of boundary wall in a record period of time to ensure security of
students and employees which has been highly appreciated by the government. He praised
the government for benefiting IUB students with thousands of laptops and
scholarships worth millions. He thanked the Minister and other dignitaries for
attending convocation ceremony. During his visit the Minister also inaugurated USAID provided
Educational Training building worth Rs. 270 million at Baghdad ul Jadeed
Campus.
