 Awareness session on drug abuse held at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur

Bahawalpur (PR): Drug abuse is a menace, which results in massive moral degradation and societal disintegration, affecting the population equally and especially the youth of the country considered as the builders of the nation in future. According to UNODC Survey Report “Drug Use in Pakistan 2013”, there are 6.7 million addicts aged between 15-64 years in Pakistan, which advocates an urgent need to eradicate the evil instantaneously. This was stated during an awareness session on drug abuse held on direction of Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur in collaboration the Higher Education Commission. The speakers stressed on the  need that all state organs, media and civil society should join hands collectively to create mass consciousness, enforce the regulations and formulate joint strategies in controlling the nuisance. They further stated that in 2015, the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan had advised all the universities to ensure that universities campuses are declared as smoke-free zones. Regrettably, the same has not been adopted and implemented in letter and spirit. Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar, Dean Faculty of Pharmacy in remarks emphasized on creating awareness against drug abuse for students, teaching faculty, university staff and the parents. Lectures, Seminars, Debates, workshops, sports and cultural events at universities and their campuses along with awareness banners, stickers, pamphlets, and posters to be carried out to promote anti-drug usage.

67th meeting of Syndicate of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur held

Bahawalpur (PR)The 67th meeting of the Syndicate of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur held under the chair of Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor at Abbasia Campus. This was 4th meeting held during the current year as university has organized 9 meetings in the last three years. This is significant as previously there was no proper schedule of meetings of statutory bodies including senate, syndicate and selection boards. On direction of the Vice Chancellor, university administration managed to fill vacant seats of these bodies and chalked out a schedule to ensure conduct of meetings on regular basis. Resultantly, all university departments improved their performance due to timely decision making and supervision of these forums. During the current meeting, syndicate approved appointments in 17 and 18 scale vacancies to strengthen manpower in administration, treasury and examination divisions after a gap of 8 years which will surely improve the performance of these offices. Service structure of various clerical posts and conversion of nonscheduled posts into scheduled posts was also discussed in the meeting. Matters relating to employees pensions and joining of faculty members after completion of PhD study leave were also considered. The syndicate also approved recommendations of recently held academic council meeting. 

Seminar was held at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur in connection with 140th birth anniversary of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal

Bahawalpur(PR)A seminar was held at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur in connection with 140th birth anniversary of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal. The seminar was part of university’s lecture series regularly organized on direction of Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq, Vice Chancellor at historic Ghulam Muhammad Ghotvi Hall at Abbasia Campus to provide opportunities to faculty and students to benefit with thoughts of distinguished scholars and experts of various fields. On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Shahid Iqbal Kamran, Chairman, Department of Iqbaliat, Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad delivered an extensive lecture on philosophy and poetry of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal. He praised the conduct of special lectures in the historic university and termed it significant providing educational enrichment which is a natural complement to academic activities at campus.


Successful holding of the worker’s convention at Head Rajkaan has astonished their political opponents

BAHAWALPUR(By Our Staff Reporter)PPP leaders claimed that their party’s future was bright and said that the successful holding of the worker’s convention at Head Rajkaan has astonished their political opponents.
It was held in connection with the Golden Jubilee events. Chief guest of the event was former MPA Syed Irfan Ahmad Gardezi. He said that after 14 years a magnificent convention on tehsil level was held in Head Rajkaan which elevated the spirit of workers .
PPP Bahawalpur President Shahrukh Malik and District Senior Vice President Malik Shah Muhammad Channar said that the participation of of party workers and public in the convention in rural area showed their trust in Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Makhdoom Syed Ahmad Mehmood’s leadership.
They added that only the People’s Party was the representative party of labourers, farmers and the poor. District General Secretary Irshad Ahmad said that Pakistan was going through crisis and current leadership’s attention was focused on Sharif Family’s NAB references.
